Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class 2020 Review, Prices and Specs

Overview
The Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class 2020 combines a luxury cabin and a powerful powertrain in a robust and attractive package. It is the latest in a long line of luxury Mercedes-Benz SUVs that began in the late 1990s with the introduction of the M class. This new Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class 2020 is also a great improvement compared to the version it replaces. That doesn’t mean it’s perfect. In its search for key rivals outside of technology such as the BMW X5, Lincoln Aviator and Volvo XC90, Mercedes has overlooked some important details, namely interior ergonomics and driving comfort. While a “coupe” slope roof model will surely join the lineup soon, the GLE class is offered only with a square bottom SUV body at this time.

The popular medium-sized SUV from Benz has been completely redesigned by 2020 and features a more modern line of engines, additional luxury options and more contemporary technological features.

Prices:
> GLE350: $ 54,695
> GLE350 4Matic: $ 57,195
> GLE450 4Matic: $ 62,145
> GLE580 4Matic: $ 77,795

After driving two of the three available power trains, we suggest that you adhere to the turbocharged entry-level four-cylinder GLE350. Despite the fact that it is the option with less power, it moves the GLE class along with enough authority to satisfy most drivers, and gets a better fuel economy to start. Since we are saving our dollars earned with so much capacity when going with the base model, we would allow ourselves to splurge on the Premium package (Burmester audio system, ambient interior lighting, a wireless smartphone charging pad and SiriusXM satellite radio), the Energizing Package Plus (front massage seats with heat and ventilation, cabin air purification system, fragrance diffuser in the cabin) and the Warmth and Comfort package (heated front armrests and upper door panels). We would also add heated seats in the second row, four-zone automatic climate control and soft close doors, all of which are independent options.

Interior, Comfort and Cargo
Fine materials such as genuine leather, wood and metals impart a sense of true luxury, but also add a penny to the bottom line. Not only can the front seats be heated, but also the armrests and the center console cover, which quickly take the cold out of a cold winter morning. The spacious interior can now be equipped with an optional third row of seats and features the modern Mercedes technology found in the company’s latest luxury sedans. With the optional third row of hidden seats, we fit 11 handbags into the cargo hold. With all seats folded to their flat positions, the GLE class offers space for up to 26 transport luggage. The rival of the GLE class, the X5, equals the Mercedes in both metrics, but other competitors such as the Audi Q8 more similar to the coupe had much less.

Infotainment and connectivity
Dual 12.3-inch infotainment screens extend almost along the dashboard and offer several ways to interact with the system, including the MBUX voice recognition system. Like the Apple Siri or the Google virtual assistant, MBUX can respond to many commands, allowing the driver to keep their hands on the wheel, but still turn on the heat, turn on the ventilated seat function or tune in a station Specific radio A touch panel in the center console allows tactile interaction with the infotainment system, and the screen is also touch sensitive, but the menus are not logically structured. Browsing them is better when the GLE class is parked. The automatic integration of Apple CarPlay / Android and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi access point are all standard, which makes keeping up with calls, text messages and other communications while on the move a little easier.

Engine, Transmission and Performance
Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class 2020-Models bearing the GLE350 badge are powered by a 255 hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine with rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive (4Matic in the Mercedes language) and a nine-speed automatic transmission. The passage to the GLE450 offers standard four-wheel drive and a 362 hp hybrid powertrain consisting of a six-line turbocharged and a novel 48-volt electrical system. The 2020 GLE350 required 6.6 seconds to reach 60 mph on our test track, and the six-cylinder GLE450 achieved a time of 5.3 seconds. While the Mercedes-AMG GLE53 (revised separately) brings even more heat, the Mercedes-Benz GLE580 2020 represents the most powerful and expensive non-AMG model. The 48-volt system is combined with a 4.0-liter dual-turbo V-8 to make up to 504 horsepower. Each GLE class can be equipped with a state-of-the-art air suspension system that can lean at the corners and even move loose if the driver gets stuck in the sand or mud. The standard configuration is traditional steel springs and roll bars.

Fuel economy and real-world MPG
As expected, the four-cylinder GLE350 gets EPA’s highest fuel economy estimates at 20/27/22 mpg city / highway / combined for the rear-wheel drive model. The addition of four-wheel drive reduces road and city figures by 1 mpg. The GLE450 gets ratings of 19/24/21 mpg city / highway / combined. The GLE580 burns gas at a faster rate and gained 17/21/19 mpg. On our 200-mile road fuel economy test route, a GLE350 4Matic all-wheel drive returned 25 mpg, and the GLE450 4Matic delivered 23 mpg. The GLE450 goes face to face with the X5 xDrive40i six-cylinder, but the BMW wins in our fuel-saving tests with its result of 28 mpg.

Safety features and driver assistance
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA, for its millions of people) has not published the crash test results for the new Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class 2020, but the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) named it Top Safety Pick + due to its good performance in the tests of that agency. A standard set of driver assistance functions also makes the GLE class a good choice for families. Key security features include:
> Standard automated emergency brake with pedestrian detection
> Standaard blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert
> Adaptive cruise control available with semi-autonomous driving mode

Warranty and maintenance coverage
While BMW includes three years of maintenance included in the price of any New X5, Mercedes offers zero free maintenance. In terms of warranty policies, the standard GLE class offers are among the most basic in the luxury car market.
> The limited warranty covers 4 years or 50,000 miles
> The powertrain warranty covers 4 years or 50,000 miles
> No free scheduled maintenance
