It is increasingly difficult to find a car in the compact luxury class with ridiculous levels of performance. So we should all be happy for the existence of the Mercedes-AMG C63 2020, the hot-rod version of the Mercedes-Benz class C. It is available as a sedan, coupe or convertible, and each of them comes with a V-8 engine Dual turbocharged hand built by engineers in Affalterbach, Germany. The regular Mercedes-AMG C63 makes 469 horsepower, while the C63 S is tuned to make 503 hp. Either way, this car picks up speed in gobs and promises to bring excitement to your daily buzz. We could do without the hard trip, but the C63 is so much fun that you may not mind.
There are some equipment changes in the Mercedes-AMG C63 2020. The sedans and coupes now have keyless access and control of the hands-free trunk as standard. All C63 2020 convertibles come with the Aircap function, which uses baffles to keep the outdoor cabin warm or cool, and folding side mirrors. Iridium Silver Metallic is a new exterior color.
Sedan: $ 69,095
Coupe: $ 70,895
Cabriolet: $ 78,295
S sedan: $ 76,695
S coupe: $ 78,495
S cabriolet: $ 85,895
While we may prefer the style of the coupe or convertible, our money would go to the sedan. It is lighter than the coupe, which has a full-length panoramic sunroof that lets in sunlight but packs in pounds. In addition, we like the discreet appeal of a fast four-door. It’s hard not to want the most powerful Mercedes-AMG C63 S model, but the actual performance differences are slight. Only the S has the nine-step AMG traction control system, but we found it too intrusive in the C63 coupe we drove in Lightning Lap 2019, so it is not essential. Instead, let’s get the standard Mercedes-AMG C63 sedan and add the outdoor lighting package to get adaptable LED headlights and AMG Performance front seats, because they are exceptionally supportive.
Interior, Comfort and Cargo
Black / microfiber faux leather upholstery is standard on the regular strength C63, while the S models have leather seats. Both versions have a selection of interior details of wood and aluminum. We are big fans of the available AMG Performance seats, which have a ventilation function. Although technology can be loaded in the cabin, this is an elegant car in the heart, and both the materials and the environment are in line with the high selling price. The C63 sedan has a 12.6 cubic foot trunk, while the coupe has a smaller cargo hold of 10.5 cubic feet. Both have a folding rear seat of 40/20/40. The C63 cabriolet has a standard, energy-powered soft top (available in four colors) and offers 8.8 cubic feet of cargo space when the top is up. Its rear seats fold into a 50/50 division.
Infotainment and connectivity
The standard configuration of the Mercedes-AMG 2020 features a 10.3-inch infotainment interface with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration and two USB ports. A Burmester surround sound audio system is also standard, as is a six-month trial for SiriusXM satellite radio. Options include factory navigation; a customizable 12.3-inch digital instrument panel; and a front screen. You may also want to consider the optional AMG drive unit, which provides quick-access buttons on the steering wheel to adjust the large number of transmission and car chassis settings. Another option is AMG Track Pace, which allows you to store performance data of your vehicle in the infotainment interface when driving on a road circuit.
Engine, Transmission and Performance
The Mercedes-AMG C63 2020 and the C63 S have a 4.0-liter V-8 double turbo engine built by hand. In the C63, it produces 469 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. The C63 S boosts ante performance with 503 horsepower and 516 lb-ft. The top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph in the regular C63 and 180 mph in the S. In our tests, the C63 S went from zero to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and started the quarter mile in 11.9 seconds at 122 mph; We have not tried a C63. In Lightning Lap 2019, a C63 S coupe gave a second term of 2: 57.1, which puts it just behind the discontinued Cadillac CTS-Von our all-time list. All C63s come standard with an electronically controlled limited slip rear differential and an AMG Ride Control suspension with adaptable dampers. Dynamic engine mounts are included in the C63 S variants. The handling is excellent. Equipped with summer tires, the C63 S drove 1.02 g of lateral acceleration on our skidpad and braked 70 mph to a stop at just 157 feet. This capacity comes at the price of comfort, since the ride is hard on the rough pavement.
Fuel economy and real-world MPG
There is no difference in EPA fuel economy between the C63 and the C63 S, but there are differences between body styles. The sedan is rated in 18 mpg city and 27 mpg road ratings. The coupe and the cabriolet are both classified by the EPA at 17 mpg in the city, but the coupe has a road rating of 26 mpg versus 24 for the convertible.
Safety features and driver assistance
The AMG version of class C has not been tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Road Safety Insurance Institute (IIHS), although the C class of the 2019 Benz brand managed to obtain a Top Safety Pick + award from IIHS. Each C63 is equipped with basic safety features, such as a frontal collision system and blind spot monitoring. Additional assistance is available for driver assistance, including semi-autonomous level 2 functions, such as adaptive cruise control with automatic resume capability in stop and ride traffic and lane change assistance (which can be routed to the next lane for you). These items are part of the driver assistance package, which must be purchased in combination with the Multimedia package. Key security features include:
> Standard front collision system with automated braking
> Standard blind spot monitoring, blind spot assistance available
> Adaptive cruise control available with semi-autonomous driving mode
> Lane Maintenance Assistance Available
