Don’t call it a comeback for the BMW M5 2020. The BMW M5 has been here for years. However, the latest generation is shaking their peers and putting fear in the hearts of other sports sedans. Uncorking over 600 horsepower from its dual-turbo V-8, the BMW M5 2020 accelerates with unbridled ferocity. Its standard four-wheel drive system can even send all that power to the rear wheels for drivers who like to hang the tail. In fact, BMW has reinvented an icon that had become almost unrecognizable. While the M5 is still a large luxury sedan loaded with high-tech gadgets, it now has a manic side that has been lacking in the company’s M division lately.
By 2020, BMW makes small changes to the M5 range that include new standard equipment and a 35-year m5 edition of limited execution. Each model now comes with a 12.3-inch digital meter cluster, real-time traffic information, remote services and wireless device charging. The United States will only get 35 from the awkwardly called M5 Edition 35 Years, which is based on the Competition model and includes a unique gold interior finish, as well as exclusive Frozen Dark Gray II exterior paint.
M5: $ 104,695
M5 Competition: $ 111,995
Those who want the last series 5 should choose the M5 Contest, which we believe is the best M5. That choice requires bombing an additional $ 7300 for 17 more horses, specially adjusted suspension settings and some unique style bits. The improvements do not compromise the driving quality or habitability of 5. We would add the 20-inch wheels (19 s are standard) and the Executive package. The latter brings luxuries such as ventilated front seats with massage functions, heated front and rear seats, soft closing doors, four-zone automatic climate control, automatic parking assistance and more.
Interior, Comfort and Cargo
The BMW M5 2020 has an elegan leather interior with flexible and supportive sports seats. The driver’s position is optimized for performance-style driving, and BMW has not traveled the touchscreen route many of its rivals have, so making changes to the air conditioning or adjusting the radio while driving causes little distraction . There are also a plethora of desirable standard features that include customizable ambient interior lighting, a heated steering wheel, heated front seats and an electrically adjustable steering column. Other options include ventilated front seats with massage functions, heated rear seats and four-zone automatic climate control. Along with the useful cubby interior storage, the trunk of the M5 had six handbags in our test.
Infotainment and connectivity
The M5’s large infotainment screen works with the latest BMW iDrive software, is located on the top of the dashboard to the right of the driver’s sight lines, and is controlled by a rotary knob on the center console. Although Android Auto capability is not available, Apple CarPlay integration and a Wi-Fi hotspot are standard. There is also a 16-speaker, 600-watt Harman / Kardon audio system and wireless device charging on all 2020 models. If you want even more elegant features can opt for the optional rear-seat entertainment system and the Bowers sound system & Wilkins with 16 speakers and 1400 watts.
Engine, Transmission and Performance
With a 4.4-liter dual-turbo V-8 with 600 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque, the M5 is very fast. On our test track, it launched at 60 mph in 2.8 seconds and broke a time of 10.9 seconds from a quarter mile to 129 mph; top speed is a limited regulator of 163 mph. An even more powerful M5 Competition model is now available that produces a power of 617 horses. It turned out to be faster than the normal M5 in a real circuit on our annual Lightning Tour. The M5 faithful will regret the discontinued manual gearbox and the unknown four-wheel drive system, but this Bimmer has a high-tech transmission that can send 100 percent power to the rear wheels for a pure traction personality rear The enjoyment of driving is maximized here with a lively and direct direction, a well-controlled ride (rigid on the border line) and a heroic grip in the corners. That does not mean that the M5 cannot also do its duty as a luxury sedan: In Comfort mode, sail peacefully and the cabin is quiet whisper
Fuel economy and real-world MPG
The EPA estimates that the regular M5 and its competition variant will gain 15 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway. Both figures are worse than the Porsche Panamera Turbo (18 mpg city and 25 freeway) and similar to the Mercedes-AMG E53 S sedan (15 mpg city and 25 freeway). Our test the BMW M5 2020 competition on our 200-mile fuel economy route where it exceeded its government rating by 3, with a 24 mpg highway result.
Safety features and driver assistance
The BMW M5 2020 has not been tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The sports sedan offers a wide variety of standard and optional driver assistance technology. Key security features include:
> Standad front collision warning and automated emergency braking
> Standad lane departure warning and lane maintenance assistance
> Adaptive cruise control available with stop-and-go technology
Warranty and maintenance coverage
BMW offers a limited warranty and powertrain protection that aligns with luxury rivals. Its free scheduled maintenance is shorter than what Jaguar offers, but BMW’s plan is still among the best.
> The limited warranty covers 4 years or 50,000 miles
> The powertrain warranty covers 4 years or 50,000 miles
> Free scheduled maintenance is covered for 3 years or 36,000 miles
