After waiting a long time finally over, and the new mid-engined 2020 Chevrolet Corvette z06 is as good as we could have imagined. So good, in fact, that he won a 2020 10Best award right outside the door. The eighth-generation Chevorolet Corvette now has an engine behind the passenger cabin, just like the best of Porsche, Ferrari and McLaren, but at many thousands of dollars less. Incredibly, the C8’s base price starts at $ 59,995, making it a relative bargain. Available as a coupe with a removable roof panel or a convertible with a retractable hard top, the revolutionary Chevy has a 6.2-liter V-8 making 490 horsepower that gives it supercar performance. Everything. The 2020 Corvette is brand new from top to bottom.
> 1LT coupe: $ 59,995
> 2LT coupe: $ 67,295
> 3LT coupe: $ 71,495
> 1LT convertible: $ 67,495
> 2LT convertible: $ 74,295
> 3LT convertible: $ 78,495
Interior, Comfort and Cargo
The interior of the new Corvette is still a two-seat design, but the cabin moves closer to the car’s nose to accommodate the mid-mount engine. The interior is lined in materials like leather, real metal and faux suede and even has a stitched head. Speaking of the roof, it’s removable just like the ones on previous Corvettes, and it fits inside the trunk of the car just aft of the engine compartment. The rear trunk can also accommodate two golf bags, and a front trunk offers space for luggage or cargo while the roof is stowing. The driver sits behind a square steering wheel and a reconfigurable 12.0-inch caliber screen; A large infotainment touchscreen is angled toward the driver for ease of use. The interior design maximizes the driver-centered concept, bisecting the cab with a high bank of switches for the car’s climate control system. Overall, the cabin of the new Vette is quite good. The upgrade to the 3LT package offers you upgraded materials, such as leather stitched on most of its interior surfaces, plus a carbon fiber trim.
The new Corvette offers two trunk areas, one in front of the passenger compartment and one behind the engine, for a total of 13 cubic feet of storage space. Chevrolet says the Corvette can fit two sets of golf clubs in the rear compartment when they are stacked on top of each other. In our tests, we were able to fit our club set easily, making Chevy’s claim seem valid. When it came to seeing if there was room for our hand-sized suitcases, we were able to fit one in the front trunk of the Corvette and two in the rear compartment.
Infotainment and connectivity
The new Corvette uses Chevrolet’s Infotainment 3 Plus system, which features an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth audio streaming, a 4G LTE mobile access point, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. The system is easy to use and quick to respond to commands.
Engine, Transmission and Performance
Although the engine is in a new location, now behind the passenger compartment instead of in front of it, it’s still a 6.2-liter V-8, albeit one with 490 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. With the dual-mode performance exhaust that is part of the Z51 package, it produces 495 horsepower. The Z51 option also adds a limited-slip electronic rear differential, more aggressive brakes, and summer tires. An eight-speed dual-clutch automatic (a Corvette first) is the only transmission. It is controlled by a push-button gear selector on the center console or by the use of two large steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. There is no manual transmission available. In our tests, we recorded a zero-to-60mph time of 2.8 seconds and a quarter-mile of 11.2 seconds to 122 mph in a car equipped with the Z51 Performance Package ($ 5,000) and optional FE4 magnetoheological dampers (additional $ 1,895). We drive a braking distance of 149 feet from 70 mph and record 1.03g on the skidpad. Even in base form, however, the new Corvette is capable of heroic driving and offers great thrills both on the road and on the track.
Fuel economy and real-world MPG
Although the EPA has not released its official estimates for the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, we have put it through our own highway fuel economy test. We drove a C8 for 200 miles at a constant 75 mph and logged 26 mpg.
Driver Assistance and Safety Features
The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 has not been tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, so we cannot comment on its performance. The Corvette can be had with a wide range of driver assistance technology, but none of this is standard on the base model. Key security features include:
> Available rear cross traffic alert and blind spot monitoring
Warranty and maintenance coverage
Although its performance is incredible, the Corvette’s warranty coverage is strictly average. At least the first maintenance service is covered at no cost.
> The limited warranty covers 36,000 miles or 3 years
> Powertrain warranty covers 60,000 miles or 5 years
Free maintenance is covered for the first visit …
