Verdict
In the Sea of new small crosses that reach the market right now, the 2019 Cadillac XT4 is distinguished by being one of the most enjoyable premium SUV to pass the time. It is not the fastest, the best management or the best value. It gets confused instead of protruding. It fulfills its role as a smaller XT5, but at this point it is difficult to see the need for anything with a Cadillac badge to be much smaller. The next XT3 and XT2 would suggest that Cadillac thinks otherwise.

Introduction
This 2019 Cadillac XT4 may not seem significant, but it is the first vehicle in a new product offensive, which will make Cadillac launch a brand new or refurbished product every six months from now until 2021. Most of that product will be an SUV. Next year you will see a renovation of the XT5 and the launch of the largest XT6. A fully redesigned Escalade debuts in 2020, as well as a mini crossover XT2. Then, in 2021 we will obtain a redesigned XT5 and another small crossover, the XT3.

There’s a lot to chew there, but what can this new, long-awaited XT4, tell us about the new crop of caddies coming down the pipe? The first thing is that the company is rationalizing each offer of models in two different specifications channels: Sport and Premium Luxury.

Despite what might suggest a first step in the specs, the XT4 rides on its own platform: a reduced version of the XT5, not a number derived from Chevy. It also has its own turbocharged engine version of 2.0 liters, which produces less horsepower and less torque (230bhp/258lbft) than the unit used in other parts of the GM family. The network is a car that is slightly larger than the current harvest of small SUV’s, such as the excellent Volvo XC40. That’s why it occupies its own position in the automotive space.

Interior Design
Great improvement on the normal interior quality of Cadillac here. The company has been pressuring its interiors with a hand-finished Cut n Sew for years, but few, if any, have managed to resemble anything other than that produced in series by machines, not by humans. The inside of the XT4 moves things in the right direction, with a noticeable increase in feeling, quality and appearance in all internal materials.

Driving Performance
The first word that comes to mind when driving the XT4 is nice. Nothing shakes or seems out of place, nothing stands out especially as exceptional. It’s just a quiet, trouble-free place to take care of your business. So quiet that the direction is quite free of sensations and there is very little response from the rest of the chassis.

The engine and gearbox support this emotion-free experience by being almost discreet. There is no negative sign of any turbo assistance from the dual displacement system and NVH is on par with a rowboat. The nine-speed gearbox is rarely noticeable, which is fine.

Good news for the driver is that the truly horrific first-generation CUE entertainment system has been replaced by a new version that includes a console-mounted central controller. This makes interaction with XT4 systems simple and easy, not the struggle it used to be.

Owning
The 2019 Cadillac XT4 is a nice car to drive, and must be the same as having. There is good comfort in all four seats, an acceptable cargo space on the back and a fuel economy close to the 30mpg will ensure it is cheap to run. While Cadillac is in full reinvention mode, there should also be good lease offers, so property costs should be reasonable

At the time of writing this article, the Cadillac XT4 2019 does not have a predicted reliability index.

Cadillac covers the XT4 with a basic four-year/50.000-mile warranty and a six-year/70.000-mile powertrain warranty.

The 2019 XT4 comes standard with rear parking sensors, a rear view camera and the General Motors teen driver system, which allows you to set the speed and audio limits for secondary drivers.

This Cadillac offers a ton of optional driver assistance and active security systems. Most are distributed in several packages, so you can select and choose the features you want. This also makes it easier to get some of these technologies at a lower price than buying a costly package with all of them. The XT4 is available with front parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, security alert seat, a rearview mirror camera, surround view parking camera, auto assist Parking, a front display, adaptive cruise control, automatic high lights, Lane exit warning, Lane maintenance assist, one tracking distance indicator, front collision warning, pedestrian sensing and automatic emergency braking back and forth.
